Golden Eagle Baby "Phoenix" Survives Wildfire

Here is a story where a 70 day old golden eagle chick survives a raging wildfire in Eagle Mountain, Utah - that destroyed the eagle's nest. The baby golden eagle was rescued by Kent Keller, a volunteer who puts bands on nest eagles to track their longevity and migration patterns.

Kent had put a tracking band onto the young eagle born inside a nest high on a mountainside in Utah County, on the 1st of June, 2012. Unfortunately, target practice (gunfire) sparked a blaze that spread over 5,000 acres of natural forest. A wildefire blaze that destroyed the baby eagle's nest.

Target shooting started at least 21 wildfires in Utah by June, 2012...

Let's get back to Nature and the golden eagles! Six days after the fire Kent returns to the nesting area to locate the baby eagles body, retrieve the legband and close the file. The nest was completely burned .. but among the ashes, at the base of a Juniper tree - (June 28th) - he saw the legs of the golden eagle chick.

The baby eagle was alive! The eagle chick was badly burned by the fire that destroyed his nest, but he was still alive... Near him were rabbit and squirrel carcasses, evidence his parents had tried to feed him after disaster struck.

Phoenix had suffered burns on his beak, head, wings and talons. His flight feathers were melted to within an inch or two of his wing and tail. He was very underweight at just over five pounds.
It took Keller six days to obtain permission from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife and the Division of Wildlife Resources to take the eagle out of the area so it could receive help.

During that time one of the eagle's parents continued to drop food to the youngster. But because of his injuries, the eaglet was unable to eat any of it, Erickson said. KLS.com
Not allowed to save eagle's lives without permission??? Duh !!!

Anyway, Keller was eventually able to get the badly burned and dehydrated eagle chick to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah - where you can donate to help them feed and rehabilitate "Phoenix" and many other baby animals in need... I just sent my donation!

Eagle Mountain's miracle survivor, baby eagle "Phoenix", has been re-hydrated at the rescue center and has begun eating beef heart and venison.
Phoenix also suffered burns on his feet and mouth, but his eyes were left unharmed. He is extremely underweight at just over 5 pounds, but has had a good appetite, according to Erickson.

"He is a prickly, 'stabby' pin cushion with all of those melted feathers, and if he survives his first few weeks he will still have to go through an entire body molt which will not happen until this time next year," Erickson said. "It is nothing short of a miracle he survived."

With crossed fingers and a bit of luck, Erickson is hopeful that Phoenix will "rise up from the ashes to take his first flight and from there, go on to be a wild bird again.

"He is the perfect poster child for this mostly man-caused fire season." DesertNews
Human interactions with the golden eagle will be limited - during his recovery - so that he can be successfully released into the wild again as volunteers at the rehabilitation center will work to keep him as wild as possible.

The recovery of the golden eagle depends on how much follicle damage there is to his wings .. if they are not too burned, he should be able to molt into new feathers next year and hopefully be able to fly by June 2013.

Wings Tattered by Flames Talons Scorched
No one really knows how the eagle chick survive the flames that engulfed his nest. Either he jumped - a 25 foot fall - to the ground below .. rolled another 100 feet .. and then got himself back to the base of the cliff. Or one of the parent eagles took the chance to lift him from the nest!

Seriously pay attention to the astonishing events of this eagle chicks survival. A 70 day old golden eagle chick - just born into this world - has instinct and the knowledge of fire, danger and how to survive.

How can that be?

If golden eagle phoenix jumped from the nest to save his own life? Where did he get this deep instinct and knowing? Human's don't have it! Human beings have lost this inner connection with Nature's instinct.

In my mind, the spirit of Nature sends us warnings and sends us communications for us all to get back into balance. Not only to learn respect for Nature; but for us to learn respect for ourselves as living beings on this amazing Planet.

If you love Nature, you love yourself. If you love yourself, you love Nature.

Sometimes, unique situations create totally unique beings on Planet Earth...
The Wildlife Rehabilitation nonprofit center of Northern Utah, which treats about 1,800 animals a year, is accepting financial and food donations to offset the cost of caring for the golden eagle.
Today, the trees are singing!

If you cannot donate - don't worry! Just meditate the love and the compassion from your heart that golden-eagle-phoenix wings renew between now and June 2013, when he will potentially be released back into the wild to create a new family of eagles, with a new nest and a new generation of co-operation between Nature and Mankind.

Planetary Economics - The Art of Compassion

The economic turmoil facing society in 2008, 2009 until 2014 - is a small part of a greater planetary evolution whose beginning will alter our lives over the next 100 years.

The real problem is that people around the world are looking at life (issues, and problems) in a very limited way, through media prescribed (vision limiting) bi-focal lenses. The economic bifocals are necessary when individuals begin to exhibit symptoms of blurring and panic when faced with economic meltdown of a crumbling archaic system.

Media bifocals correct this panic by limiting the depth of perception of the crumbling columns and falling roof. Therefore a large block of collapsing masonry seems like a harmless fly until it hits the observer, at which point perception becomes irrelevant.

The physical brain is designed to correlate and act on information close to the observer and simultaneously be aware of what is happening at a distance. In humans this ability operates mostly on automatic pilot. Humans are not aware that the mind is processing information beyond the point of their myopic focus at any given moment.

Animals and birds are fine examples of the art of immediate observation both near and far. A blackbird or sparrow searches for its food locally, and yet remain aware of predators at a distance. A hare or a field mouse may forage for food at the edge of a wood, and yet the hare or the mouse are aware of movements that indicate the approach of a hawk, a fox or a cat.

Humans have the same ability to see far and near in the same moment, but these far/near observation skills are eclipsed by desire to focus exclusively on the ego, appearance, what we WANT and the game/power struggle of what we GET for ourselves. Humans have become very self-centred. This activity on a global scale has led to the current economic crisis.

One aspect of the crisis is a total lack of awareness of where our food comes from, or what food really is. The ego is rarely aware of the world around it, of cosmos, the stars and planets, and of the earth itself. Growing populations consume at growing rates, with little thought to the planetary implications of this behaviour.

Multiply a billion times the consumption of paper, wood, metals, water, food, textiles, fuel and land... and a billion adds to a billion more. Taking off the myopic lens, what is it we are consuming? Where do these resources come from? As economies increase in wealth, what is the resources base of this increase in wealth? It is the planet itself.

As the disaster approached (from afar), social myopia did not see it coming because no one was paying attention. The most ancient rules of behaviour begin with: If you do not care for the planet, you do not care for yourself. That is a very simple rule to follow, ensuring wealth for our grandchildren.

In the myopic world, what is wealth?

Wealth has come to mean indulgence, get what you can fast, take care of yourself, walk all over other people (if you have to), and always have more than your competitors. The structures this type of behaviour creates are crumbling and falling apart. As the masonry falls onto the wealth seekers in the temple, crushing them with a force equal to the selfishness they carry... no one looks up to see who created this mess.

All of mankind shares this planet with the trees, fish, animals, birds and insects. Currently, we take without giving. When individuals look outside of the ego-field they see their own reflection looking back at them as they destroy the earth. If one looks a bit further, the individual sees that as they destroy the earth they are destroying their own future, the future of their children, and are certainly destroying the future of their grandchildren.

Growing populations cannot consume depleted resources at growing rates.

Economics is a rational term for human behaviour. Buying silk or spices is the economic behaviour of consuming the earth's resources. Buying oil is a human (economic) behaviour based on certain needs. Alternatively, if the sands of the Sahara contained some power to fuel the worlds demand for energy, then emptying the desert of its sands would be an economic activity as a result of human behaviour.

The corrective healing for ego-driven-myopia, is to be aware of and see the world around us. Go for a walk in the park (if one still exists), walk across the fields or through the woods, and pay attention to the planetary provider of resources. Observe the animals and birds seeking to exist amid the concrete of towns and cities. Be aware of the weeds and plants growing at the side of the road. Paying attention to the physical surroundings far and near (there are stars and planets above our heads), beings us back in touch with the reality that surrounds us - and on which we depend.

To the soul, a fleeting moment of compassion, is the gold of the spirit. The Alchemical gold created by the ancients: The Art of Compassion. The ending of Ego. Being grateful to the planet for sustaining us, is the art of seeing far while observing what is near.

To Move In The Opposite Direction

At this point in our current devolution human beings are beginning to look ridiculous, and in some ways it is getting embarassing. The world has this international organisation called the United Nations, where discussions are held by world leaders and policy makers, and where the planet's weather is to blame for continuing human disorder into the future: "UN Council debates 'weather of mass destruction". The premise is that climate change will cause security problems for the nations of the world. Sure, because of the way we behave. Not because of the weather, but because of the state of our minds.

The 21st Century is progressing like some kind of Holywood film: "Gone With The Wind", starring "Weather Changes", with supporing roles from "Global Warming" and "Hurricanes". Scarlet O'Hara has transformed into a Tornado, with the destruction of Atlanta happening through a guest appearance by "Earthquake". And don't steal my funny ideas - you media pundits out there!!

Climate Change Story: Gone With The Wind, is the worst possible approach to the situation we are in. The weather is not at war with mankind. Planet earth is not at war with mankind. The climate is not our enemy and it is not a threat to national security. Human behaviour and the way humans think are creating these problems. That is because no matter what is happening around us it is business as usual. The weather is not the problem, we are the problem. Sure, the shifts in climate over the next fifty to a hundred years will challenge mankind in ways that demand a change in how we live. So, big deal... We have to change.

In some ways this whole situation is playing out as an International comedy. The Pentagon announce that they want to control the weather by 2050, and no one says a word. The military announce that they will use the weather as a weapon to achieve success in bringing a country to its knees, and no one says a word. The earth does it on its own as part of a natural cycle of change and growth, suddenly people are upset: The weather is killing us. The weather is dangerous. We are under threat. Is this maybe a control issue problem? If humans control the weather and use it as a weapon, it is okay. If things happen outside our control we have a global nervous breakdown...

I saw this coming since I was a young child. I would have dreams where I saw tidal waves engulfing cities, more powerful storms, earthquakes and it all seemed to be happening together. This is nothing new, it has happened on the earth before and it will happen again. This is a natural cycle, made worse by our degradation of the natural environment. Even if the earth was pristine, the climate would still be undergoing upheaval and change. Humans have made the situation worse for themselves, by destroying the natural environment that would normally protect them through these cycles. So, we did it to ourselves.

Recently I dreamt that I was in a world very similar to this one, but it was more like a twin dimension or a parallel world. Just as I live here, I seemed to live there. This dream was current day Switzerland, but totally different. The buildings were smaller and ecologically designed, the people were peaceful and they wore special Hemp clothing that was a bluish-indigo-purple weave. The clothing was loose and comfortable, and very well designed. They were also having earth changes. The only thing is they were better prepared than we are. They knew what was happening.

A large group of young people had gathered to shelter in a special building, where they were outwaiting the storm and were discussing the situation. But it was natural and they were not afraid and taking the attitude that the weather is a threat. There was no panic. The atmosphere was more of co-operation and awareness. These people were highly intelligent. It is not like there were wars. The people were very calm, as though they were guided by something.

If people in this world are concerned about the climate change, then they only have to look in the mirror to find the solution. If politicians really want to create an environment of global security then they have to change the way they think, because that is what determines how we meet events. Obviously in areas where water supplies dwindle to nothing the towns and cities will die. Take a look around you, at the dried bones of lost civilisations. It happens.

The problems we face this time around is that over the last 100 years humans have largely destroyed the natural environment that sustains them through hard times as it has sustained us through times of abundance. Even worse, the colonisers wiped out the people and cultures with the wisdom needed to guide us through these difficlut times. This wisdom always guided the remnants of mankind through the cycles of transformation, and all that was destroyed. So, when you stand up and say: The weather is attacking us and this is a major problem... The actual problem was created back when you started to eliminate the people whose wisdom you now need. That is the problem, and not the weather.

I find the continuing push by global corporate interests to make plants and herbs illegal much more cause for concern than changes in the climate. Once more this is the aggression of the corporate banking colonies attempting to further destroy the wisdom of the indigenous people on this planet. No one at the UN is standing up and discussing moves to protect the rights of people to freely use healing plants and herbs in their journey to be close to the earth. Being close to the earth is the wisdom required to understand and balance the way we live through these times ahead.

This aggression on the freedom and physical, mental and emotional security of local populations to live in peace and harmony is not coming from the weather, it is coming from corporate financial interest. In the future, when things get really bad, it is the people who can harmonise with the earth who will adapt and survive. Rather than focus on severe weather changes, we should look at our own behaviour and eliminate the radical and exremist philosophy of one faction seeking global control over the actions of all other human beings.

The solution is that, we are the solution. That means changing how we think. As we change how we think we also change how we live. This is not the Weather of Mass Destruction, this is the Weather of Mind Development. We have no choice, we have to adapt and change to survive. So, it is in some part Climate Change, and in other ways the Human Climate will change or go extinct. Extinction is another form of change if we choose that road.

Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius, and a lot of courage, to move in the opposite direction.” - Albert Einstein

Cycles of The Earth

As a child I always loved to wander around ruins in the Highlands of Scotland and imagine what kind of people once lived in those places, and where they are now? I had a good imagination, maybe I should have been an Archeologist? I could imagine how the buildings looked when they were new and when people lived in them. I could always see the people of that time as though they were actually there and I was not. In my imagination, their world existed and I was some future phantom briefly visiting their lives. Then I would return to my own time and the buildings became empty bones of stone covered in moss and peat.

I would spend hours following and studying old earth eaten tracks that used to be, for the people of the time, newly built roads. They are today's old roads where grass, shrubs and heather widen the cracks. I always wondered, where did those people go? Why were their houses and castle walls jagged skletons on the landscape? What kind of people were they? Will this world follow the same fate as their world, and will a child one day in the future wander among the ruins of the 20th Century, wondering what kind of people lived in the broken ruins lying like dinosaur skeletons swallowed by the earth?

The decline of the 20th Century is as inevitable as the fall of Rome. The people who have built the world we live in today, may still think like the Romans, but their buildings will one day disappear as the earth and nature re-inherits the space. Nothing we build lasts forever, and most probably our grandchildren's children will not want to live the way we do now.

I say this, because over the past few months I see many comments from politicians and Governments calling for more building programmes, and re-population projects to reverse the natural decline in many communities. I wonder to myself, have politicians never wandered in the ruins of a previous civilisation, and wondered about those people's lives? Perhaps realised that decline is an important part of growth and renewal?

When it comes to moving indigenous people out the way in order to access a vital resource for the gobble (global) community, then there is little thought about empty skelton houses and long silent tracks that once were roads... But our modern towns, cities and empires must not be moved aside, fall into ruin, undergo change. Even though our way of life is dirty, polluting the environment, committed to endless expansion and is not sustainable. No culture in the universe could sustain these levels of growth and resource consumption and survive.

Many high level people with global public profiles are fighting to make sure that our world will continue to grow, multiply, increase, become richer, develop and feed itself. I wonder if this is reality or a slogan for endless political campaigns? Because in their world nothing is to die, nothing is to get smaller... it all has to increase.

(image: Jerry Mitrovica, Toronto University)
This climate map is one example of unregulated expansion and increase. It is a graphic map of increases in sea level due to the melting of ice at either of the earth's polar caps.

In the event of ice sheet melts near the Northern or Southern poles. The blue colors show a drop in sea level while the red and orange colors show a rise. Global Warming

That is what I mean by unregulated growth and expansion. It can lead to flooding. We have recently enjoyed relatively stable climates around the world since the Little Ice Age. Which, at that time, effected settlements in European and North America probably from the late 15th Century until the 18th Century. Western Europe experienced a general cooling of the climate between the years 1150 and 1460 and a very cold climate between 1560 and 1850 that brought dire consequences to its peoples. The colder weather impacted agriculture, health, economics, social strife, emigration, and even art and literature. Increased glaciation and storms also had a devastating affect on those that lived near glaciers and the sea.

Can fluctuations in the earth's climate bring down Empires? I would imagine that you can create an Empire during times of plenty, that is difficult to maintain in times of climatic changes that challenge your bumper harvests and growing economy.

Are We on the Brink of a 'New Little Ice Age?' Thinking is centered around slow changes to our climate and how they will affect humans and the habitability of our planet. Yet this thinking is flawed: It ignores the well-established fact that Earth’s climate has changed rapidly in the past and could change rapidly in the future. The issue centers around the paradox that global warming could instigate a new Little Ice Age in the northern hemisphere. Global & Climate Change Insitute

Climate Changes: 535 AD
Lydus wrote that, "The sun became dim ... for nearly the whole year ... so that the fruits were killed at an unseasonable time."

Michael the Syrian commented that, "the sun became dark and its darkness lasted for eighteen months. Each day it shone for about four hours, and still this light was only a feeble shadow ... the fruits did not ripen and the wine tasted like sour grapes."

In many ways I feel that it is irresponsible and short sighted to lead people to think that they can continue to expand, that communities can endlessly increase, get richer, exploit more resources faster. This form of thinking is not in touch with reality. For example, if you endless expand any substance on earth, you drown in it.

Everyone wants gold. What was the story of king Midas? Just imagine everyone wakens up tomorrow and everything is made of gold. What do you eat? Sure, let's double the world's population in one year and we can all be immortal... The earth is going to be a bit crowded. Our thinking is wrong and our thinking effects the world we live in on a daily basis.

Just to think that we can have more, faster, and tomrorrow we then have to have more than more to increase on what we had yesterday, is a recipe for disaster. When the child in the future walks on the broken bones of our civilisation and wonders where those people are and how they lived? That child may see that we drowned in a global Tsunami of materialism. I would imagine the people who survived to study the broken skeleton jutting out of the earth, are the ones who learned to live in balance and harmony.

A Golden Day

Today was one of the most amazing days I have lived on this earth. It was perfect in every way. Apart from the fact that there was a beautiful blue sky, the sun was warm and the cherry blossoms are beginning to appear on the trees. This was just one of those days. Although it will take time to write down what I was shown today, there is one clear message: A Golden Age has dawned.

Considering what is happening in the world right now, it seems completely crazy to consider that something new has taken place and nothing will ever be the same again. I saw it with my own eyes, the old is fading and ending and the new is beginning. This is one of the most awesome things I have see in this world, because today I actually saw the spirit world, the elven world appear (mirror itself) in the physical world.

I see beauty every day with my spirit eyes. If I have a bad day, it is what I see with my spirit vision that keeps me balanced. Until today, my spirit vision was not reflected in the physical world humans inhabit. I don't mean nature when I say this. Everywhere in nature is the presence of the spirit world in which the physical reality is rooted. But the world of man is a pale shadow and is mostly hidden away in a little corner where people can pretend materialism is God and that the world of spirit does not exist.

Since I was a child I have lived close to the world of spirit and my eyes are not clouded by the shadow of materialism. I live a very simple life, I eat only vegetables, and I drink my Ann Wigmore water, Rejuvelac. I paint my pictures and everywhere I go I watch, observe and pay attention to the invisible world, the world of spirit.

This afternoon the spirit guides called me out while I was working on the websites. I observed the trees, and the birds. The dandelions are appearing. They are truly amazing flowers. They are so resilient, appearing in cracks in the road where no other flower dares to grow. Dandelions are the Zen Masters of the flower kingdom.

As I was returning I looked at the small ornamental ponds where the Goldfish die every year, there are some newts and frogs. Everything was fine in these small ornamental ponds until the gardeners/someone did something to the little heron who liked to visit the gardens. This is an area surrounded by a forest (nature park), where there are meadows and natural ponds. It is only natural that the odd heron stops by the ornamental goldfish pond.

Herons also eat frogs and newts, and I sometimes saw the heron walking through the grass in this public garden. Not only looking for food. There is a special energy in this place, and they were at home there. Sometimes I would see them fly overhead, and rarely I would meet the heron in natures garden. The little heron was walking around and we did not disturb one another.

One day I saw heron feathers everywhere leading from the water, and I was left with the impression that the garden autho-rot-ties had something to do with this. It is difficult to tell if the heron survived, but after that I did not see the bird who liked to visit nature's rosegarden again. It was shortly after this that the goldfish began to totally die off. While the heron was visiting the fish were fine, and now no fish survives there... They all die. It's very strange.

Today there was only the water in the pond and a magnetic wind blowing through the trees. That is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. I could hear a new sound in the pine needles, the trees and the pine trees. For days there has been a powerful magnetic wind. Today it appeared in the gardens where the small ponds are. That is when I saw a totally new world emerging.

Man without the spirit of nature is dead man walking. Man without nature is dead man walking. Today I saw something so beautiful, that I can say I have never seen such beauty in the physical world as I saw today. It began with the magnetic wind blowing into the water of the small pond. It is a shallow flat bottom that reflects the light when the sun is shining, and the sun was shining. The sun was golden.

That is exactly what I saw in and on the water. Gold. I could hardly believe my eyes. It will take me many weeks (months) to find a way to convey this reality in words and pictures. All I can say now is that I saw the world of spirit directly reflected in this physical world, and I knew this is something totally new.

You see indications of this in the signs left by long lost civilisations.

But, the key word is lost. Today what was lost returned. I now understand the darkness, and the cycle of the dark ages. The darkness is not the enemy of mankind, it is our teacher and our companion. I do not mean the fools who get lost in the darkness. I mean the actual darkness (where people get get foolishly lost) is a pure form of light. It is a powerful teacher. It is teaching us not to get lost, and not to be afraid. Then the cycle changes and the golden age begins to form... This is the cycle we are entering now.

I saw an actual golden light reflected in the water moved by the magnetic wind. This gold is the light of the spirit world in which the physical world is rooted. The physical world grows from the ground of the world of spirit, the spirit world. If the physical world ceased to exist, the spirit world would still exist. Today, for the first time, I saw the world of spirit touching the world of matter (our world). I saw the two become one. They are one.

I was shown that this is a cycle. The cycle is older than time. We enter a phase where the spirit world seems to fade, and people seem to lose touch with what is real. The people who have the eyes to see do not lose touch. There are civilisations who do not lose touch, because they can see in the dark. Only the immature life forms lose sight of the spirit when the darkness falls. It is a lesson to teach us to see in the dark through the light of our own inner being. When a species sees the light in the darkness, they evolve onto a totally new level of being.

We are still caught in the illusion that the darkness is to be feared, and that darkness is not the light. But when you look out into a clear night sky, what do you see? The stars embeded in darkness where they shine brightest of all. When you look at nature the darkness is a companion to the light. The two are one. Present day mankind has forgotten this truth.

Knowing How To Survive

On How each Spherical In-Wave (future) flows through its Wave-Center (present) and Becomes the Out-Wave (Past)

Some of my earliest memories regarding Climate Change, were in the 60's and the 70's as I observed the world around me. From the long forgotten and abandoned stone Brochs and monuments in the Highlands of Scotland, to the dried mountain river beds, it became clear that nothing on earth lasts forever.

Skara Brae is only one of many lost cultures, and we probably have not found one tenth of what once existed. The whole planet is covered in signs of change, and in signs of climate change. The fact is the climate does change, and people are now so removed from nature that changes in the climate alarm them. One only has to read Velikovsky to know that the earth has been visited by cataclysmic change in the past and it will experience such changes in the future. The only obstacle to such change is human thought.

The Egypt of today was once the land of milk and honey. The desert regions were once covered in vegetation. Rivers once flowed in areas where water today is now scarce. In my travels across the world I have often walked in dried riverbeds, where even in winter the water no longer flows. The recorded history today is a nano-blip in the overall history of mankind, and add to that the history of the earth before mankind.

There is a thing, formless yet complete. Before heaven and earth it existed. Without sound, without substance, it stands alone and unchanging. It is all-pervading and unfailing. We do not know its name, but we call it Tao. .. Being one with nature, the sage is in accord with the Tao. - Lao Tzu Ancient Eastern Philosophy

I sense that the message in the Tao is to go with the flow... No matter what, there is going to be change and the way we deal with the flow of events is equal to the art of living. Our inability to deal with the flow of events are equal to our levels of resistance. Thought is continually in resistance to change. Yet, if you study the nature of life everything around you is in a constant state of change and flux.

Life and death exists simultaneously. Rivers will change their course, rocks over time will wear down, land will rise and land will fall, people are born and people die. The sun is different today than it was a moment before. Such is life. It seems only our thoughts are obsessed with freezing events and creating a state of material permanence - although thought is incapable of that act. You only have to look around to see that we live in a profound state of change.

Rather than discussing whether changes in the sun are altering the climate, or if human activity is altering the climate - the real challenge is how we adapt. Those who adapt survive, they go with the flow. This has always been the case. It seems to be the Alchemical nature of material life to be in a constant state of flux and adaptation, transforming to the next level and altering ones state to adapt to co-exist at the next level. It is a form of planetary and universal alchemy.

“Many islands will be submerged around the world, even with 1 meter of sea-level rise,” he says. “This could include whole island nations such as the Maldives, the Marshall Islands, and the Tuvalu.” Rising carbon-dioxide levels and greenhouse warming may not only speed up the arctic melting, but it may also affect other abrupt climate shifts, Overpeck says.

“The most alarming thing is that we think global warming will act to increase the probability of abrupt climate shifts happening in the future,” he says. “It really makes sense for us to slow the rate of human-induced climate change in order to reduce the threat of one or more devastating climate surprises.”
Study of Planet Earth

The rational behind changing how we live on this planet is not a question of climate change, it is a question of not polluting the earth - period. Storms or no storms, you do not pollute the earth you live on. Storms or no storms, you do not pollute the water. Storms or no storms, you do not pollute the air. Changes to the earth's climate are coming anyway, but the question of pollution is a no brainer in terms of how we live on this planet. No one can afford to pollute their living environment (even in times of plenty).

Chaco is located at 6,200 feet in elevation. The weather in Chaco Canyon is unpredictable and can be extreme. Come prepared for all possibilites! Chaco Canyon

In isolated areas where nature makes it difficult to farm, cultivate, and where it is difficult to exist there is little sign of modern human presence. Populations gather and grow in areas of relative climate stability, where nature's clock of cycles and patterns allow for food cultivation and access to the most important supply of water. But if you go into areas like Chaco Canyon you experience a mini-version of global climate change, and it is the same in most high mountain areas.

Very few people in the world could survive in one of these areas, because people do not understand and do not pay attention to nature. You can go into the mountains of Glencoe, Scotland when the skies are blue and the sun is shining and within minutes be faced with a rapidly approaching storm. It is often the case that in isolated areas of the planet the natural environment can change dramatically from one moment to the next. These are very volatile environments.

What seems to be happening is that this massive flux in nature's energy is moving into highly populated areas, where people are not used to these kinds of changes. Humans have built large towns and cities to accomodate their lifestyles, and these places are not suitable for large and unexpected swings in climate. Towns and cities do not adapt well to extremes in weather. Too hot, too cold, too dry, too wet bring high levels of discomfort to the concrete jungles. Therefore alterations in the climate are leading to high levels of alarm. People are no longer a part of nature.

Since I was a child I have been telling people that big changes are coming, not because I read books or prophecies, but because I had dreams and for some reason I knew these dreams to be true. The Tsunami that hit across Asia is nothing compared to the tidal waves I saw engulfing high-rise cities. In many places a wall of water is coming our way. That in itself is not a reason to change. The reason to change is intelligent love of our planet.

I never associated my dreams with a reason to love the planet earth. I did not think: I had better love the earth because a wall of water is coming. In times of abundance just as in times of change you love the planet you live on. You don't have a reason for loving the earth, you just love the earth and act responsibly towards the planet you live on. Love and respect are heart-felt and not rationally motivated. This is the biggest problem that humans have. Very few people on this planet know how to feel gratitude in the most extreme weather. This is only something you learn if you love nature. Often, people caught unexpectedly in a torrential downpour will inevitably laugh - when nature catches us out...

I do not feel that the problems facing us are about climate change, but about our attitude and the need for a climate change in attitude to meet the climate change of the earth. Because the changes are coming whether we can deal with it or not. What these changes mean is that the things we take for granted can no longer be taken for granted. It is not a major disaster, it is a challenge to change. Those of us who change will adapt, and those who do not change will suffer from the global tsunami that demands us to adapt to the earth (rather than the other way round).

If you take a tent out into the mountains, then you are sitting right in the middle of climate change, because there is a very fine line between a tent and the surrounding weather. When this extreme comes into the fortresses of our towns and cities people panic. It is a fact of nature that when water supplies dwindle communities face problems. Solution oriented communities will adapt to those changes. The first rule of wilderness survival is: "Don't panic" (when you are lost). Children of The Earth
