Buddha Boy Says No To Animal Sacrifices

Palden Dorje, the Nepal Buddha Boy, has called for an end to animal sacrifices. He has asked organizers to stop a Hindu festival where thousands of animals are typically slaughtered. He urged people to recognize the compassion in their hearts, and their connection to one another through the all-encompassing soul.

Palden Dorje plans to make an appearance at the mela on the 24th of November, when the sacrifices of hundreds of thousands of animals take place. Organisers of the festival have refused to allow him to speak at the festival, where he intended to preach compassion and ask people to carry out a vegetarian 'blessing' to their Goddess.

In a recent interview, Bomjan said that the goddess represented the mother of all living beings, including the animals and would never be pleased with the sacrifice of her own children. "Human beings have turned brutal by offering animal sacrifice to the goddesses. This practice must be stopped now," he said.

The Nepal Government will not stop the slaughter, citing 'religious sensitivity'.

Bomjan said that in the past, human sacrifices were also considered to be essential for Hindu festivals. But they had been stopped.

"We also used to burn widows on the pyres of their husbands as part of tradition," he said. "But didn’t we end that atrocity?" Prabhupadanugas News

As many States in India have banned animal sacrifices, more Indians cross into poorer Nepal to indulge in the 'mother of all sacrifices'. Between November 24 and 25 half a million animals will be slaughtered at Gadhimai Jatra in Bara district in the south of Nepal. The sale of animals to the richer Indians, is big business. Pramada Shah, president of the Animal Welfare Network Nepal explained that, "In India today there is greater awareness about animal sacrifice and animal suffering so it is sad to see that Nepal caters to those devotees who will be able to conduct sacrifices that are illegal in their home states." The Gadhimai killings are condemned as the world’s greatest wanton cruelty of animals and are a severe danger to the environment and public health. The slaughtered animals are not eaten but the carcasses are left in the open while rivers of blood drench the fields.

Nepal Buddha Boy Re-emerges

KATMANDU, Nepal 11 November 2008 — A teenage boy who many believe is the reincarnation of Buddha has re-emerged from the jungle in southern Nepal, attracting thousands of devotees, officials said Tuesday.

After retreating into the jungle for more than a year, Ram Bahadur Bamjan, 18, re-emerged Monday near Nijgadh town, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of the capital, Katmandu.

Upon hearing the news, thousands of Bamjan's followers, some from as far away as India, traveled to the site Tuesday to see him, police official Abhaya Joshi said by telephone.

There has been no formal declaration by Buddhist authorities that Bamjan is the reincarnation of the Buddha. But people have worshipped the teenager since he was first seen in 2005 meditating in the jungle, where he sat for months, motionless with his eyes closed among the roots of a tree.

Joshi said Bamjan plans to talk to his followers for a few hours every day for a week before returning to the jungle to meditate. The long-haired Bamjan, dressed in a white cloth, appeared to be in good health as he spoke to his followers about peace and ending discrimination, according to the Rajdhani newspaper.

"It was an amazing experience to hear and see him. I have no doubt now he is the reincarnation of Buddha," said Sangeeta Lama, a woman who met Bamjan for the first time. Siddhartha Gautama, was born in southwestern Nepal around 500 B.C. and later became revered as the Buddha, which means Enlightened One.

Buddhists strongly believe in reincarnation, the doctrine that every soul reappears after death in another bodily form. "Meditating without food does not prove that he is reincarnation of Buddha. There is much study needed to be done," Shakya said.

Nepal Buddha Boy Goes Underground

Ram Bahadur Bomjon begins meditating again in Nepal in an underground bunker. His associates claim he will meditate for three years, without food, sleep or drinks.

After his second disappearance in March 2007, Bomjan was seen wandering in the jungle, where he met a villager and asked him to construct a bunker for him. The villager contacted the Committee and Raju Shah who started organizing this new bunker from which Bomjan has started meditating (March 27). Shah said Bomjon has started meditating in the bunker on Monday and will continue on for the next three years. He will not eat, sleep or take any water. The cement walled bunker is about seven feet (2.1 meters) deep and is located in the jungle 60 kilometers (40 miles) southeast of Kathmandu, capital city of Nepal.

United We Blog -- 28 March: Ram Bahadur Bomjon, popularly known as the “Buddha Boy”, who stole the limelight after spending months in meditation, reportedly without food and water, has been found again, meditating inside a pit dug underground at Ratanpuri recently. Bomjon, who had started meditation under a Pipal tree in the village, had gone missing since March 11, 2006, and again reappeared on December 25 the same year. According to Inspector Rameshwor Yadav of the Area Police Post Nijgadh, Bomjon was inside the bunker-like square ditch of seven feet.

“We call it bunker,” he said, adding, “Although it’s seven feet deep, there is no lack of oxygen inside,” said Yadav, who claimed to have seen him going inside it from close range Monday (Mar 26). A police team, under the command of Yadav, had gone to the place after word of Bomjon being on underground meditation spread in the area. “His face was clean and hair was combed well,” Yadav said.

According to him, “the bunker” has been cemented from all sides with roof of tiles. Even as frequent “hide and seek” were continuing, some locals recently spotted him in the local forest on 9th March. After his mysterious disappearance last year, his “disciples” had claimed that he had gone in search of a peaceful place for the purpose, as thousands of curious people began visiting him daily.

Indra Lama, a local, who has been deployed as caretaker for him since he began meditation, said the “bunker” was prepared as per Bomjon’s order. “After granting audience a week ago, he expressed his desire to meditate inside the ground; so we built it,” he said.By Upendra Lamichhane

Palden Dorje Bio It is said that in ancient times, Tamangs used to fly in the air, meditated without taking foods, talked with trees and used to sit still for a long time. One of the ancestors of Palden Dorje was known in Lalitpur as flying Lama. Palden Dorje learnt chhyogi (Tamang's sacred book) from Som Bahadur Lama for two years. He was sent to a cave for a month. Bomjan now plans to begin 'patal samadhi' (underground meditation).

The Tamang are one of the several ethnic groups living in Nepal descended from Tibeto-Burman origins. Living mainly north and east of the Newars in the Kathmandu Valley, they constitute 5.6% of Nepal's population, which places their population at 1,280,000, slightly higher than the Newars. Due to their geographical location, their language is vaguely intelligible with Newari but closely related to both Tibetan and Sherpa. The Tamang clans are also known as Bhotiya and are the member of the tibetian races of people who entered nepal about 1000 years ago.

Soldiers Arrive & Buddha Boy Leaves

The Nepal Buddha Boy walked away from the place he was meditating on March 11 2006. He re-appeared again on December 25 2006 and began meditating at a new location. A few weeks ago, I read a short report saying that Nepalese soldiers were guarding the meditation area of Ram Bahadur Bomjan. They claimed the soldiers were guarding him from sunset to sunrise. The strange thing is that since the soldiers have incorporated their presence into the area where he is meditating, the Buddha Boy has walked away again, as from March 8 2007.

A Nepalese teenager hailed as a reincarnation of the Buddha has vanished for a second time in southern Nepal, a member of his support committee said Saturday. Ram Bahadur Bomjam, 17, who shot to fame in 2005 when his supporters said he had begun a meditation session that would go on uninterrupted for years, went missing on Thursday night, the committee member said.

"He suddenly disappeared from his meditating site in the jungle of Bara," said Raju Shah, a member of the committee set up after the boy became a local media sensation. "He told his priest Indra Lama that he would meditate somewhere in other undisclosed locations."

Bamjon left the site late on Thursday, said a police officer in Jijgadh, 150 km southeast of Kathmandu. "He quietly left the site around midnight on Thursday. Earlier that night he had told his attendants that he would move to a new location for meditation," Rameshwar Yadav said.

Meditating For Peace

Although its not clear what motivated him to do this, but his followers claim that his eternal voices had been calling... "There is war in my land, Peace should prevail..."

Peace Loving Lord Buddha's life wasn't any different. Prince Buddha, was confined to his own world, the royal palace, He never saw the outside world. On an ordinary day, he escaped his palace to see the real world. He saw people's poverty, death, hunger and sickness and sufferings, something that he never knew could exist in this world. He abandoned his luxurious life, wife and his kids, then spent years in the jungle meditating under a tree. Later he received enlightenment.

Ram Bahadur Bomjon's followers regard him as the reincarnation of Buddha. The story is similar except Ram Bahadur belongs to a poor class of family, but has seen Nepal's war before his eyes for years and years. Many consider his work to be small, some say it is not possible to meditate and go on fasting for months. Scientists fear examining his health might disturb him from meditation. Banjan has already brought Nepal's profile to the world. He is appearing in blogs, news sites and even in newspapers world-wide. He is making this tiny country of ours known to the world even more than the Big Companies with tons of cash in their banks!

He has already proven poverty and age are no limit to promoting Nepal and Sending a message of peace to the world. Although Ram has not spoken formally about his meditation, his followers believe that Ram started meditating because of the country's current war.

Buddha Boy Takes Up The Sword

He’s back, and he means business. Just when you began to think that he was gone for good, Ram Bomjon, Nepal’s famous Buddha boy has reappeared. You may recall that I reported here on thinkBuddha that the Buddha Boy had been creating created quite a stir in the Bara district of Nepal, sitting under a tree and – so his supporters claimed – going for months without food. Not even a snack.

Anyway, in march of 2006, Ram Bomjon disappeared into the jungle so he could meditate undisturbed. This is a shame because although he hung around for quite long enough for his activities to attract a nice sum in donations, it wasn’t quite long enough for the claims made on his behalf to be verified.

According to Khantipur online, the prodigy appeared to some hunters on Christmas day, and then kindly put in an appearance for the media, but this time around alarmingly brandishing a sword (“even the Buddha”, he is quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph, “had to protect himself”). He said that he had still eaten nothing but medicinal herbs during his time in the jungle, and that henceforth he would be meditating by what is referred to as the “historical Halkoriya pond”. Everyone being asked about the boy say that they believe in him. When asked a monk “What do you think?” He says this is a basic soul, we need to be considerate about. While someone is praying for the people, nation and all the living beings where as others are drowned in greed and sin, fighting and killing each other senselessly. After looking at him I think peace will come to this country. He also confirms it’s true what people are saying about the boy.

A driver who’s driving that way before the boy started to meditate says he’s been watching him from the very beginning and had seen three 3 different forms of him (morning, afternoon and evening). 'Buddha Boy' Bomjon found in Bara jungle NIJGADH, BARA, Dec 25 - Ram Bahadur Bomjon, popularly known as the Buddha Boy, who had disappeared from the jungle of Ratanpuri in Bara district, nine months ago, has reappeared nearby the area.

The 17-year old teenager Bomjon, "meditating without any food or water" in the jungles of Ratanpuri village in the district disappeared under unknown circumstances in March this year and was found in the jungles near Pathlaiya-Nijgadh road section of the Mahendra Highway on Sunday. Local villagers who had been out hunting found Bomjon in dense forest located 5 km west of the highway yesterday night. Bomjon appeared before the media and local villagers this afternoon in the same place.

His disappearance got widespread national and international coverage after news reports about his sudden abandonment of the meditation site at Charkose Jhadi of Ratanpur area in the district, where he had reportedly been meditating without food and water for ten months, were made public. Bomjon had a sharp sword with him when the media reached the site. When asked why a person in search of peace carried a sword, Bomjon replied that he had taken it for his "own protection."

"Lord Buddha used to arrange his security by himself. So, I was forced to do so myself," he told journalists, in response to a query.

The young man claimed he had still not eaten anything except herbal medicines during his meditation period. Bomjan also said that henceforth he would meditate near the historical Halkhoriya pond, some five kilometers west of the place where he used to meditate before his disappearance.

Following the information that he had been spotted, a large number of people, including his family members and security personnel have arrived at the place to see him. The hunters who first spotted the Buddha boy are Rajendra Kunwar, Ram Krishna Moktan, Jaya Bahadur Kunwar and Bal Krishna Ale, of Dumarwana.

Son of an ordinary farmer in Ratanpur village of Bara district, Bomjon, his supporters and followers claim, had meditated without eating and drinking for months. The Buddha boy has said that he does not want his new meditation site to be noisy and has said that his followers be allowed to see him only from a distance of some 10 meters. When asked what should be done with the donations that his followers and visitors would make, he urged to do anything with the donations, but keep from engaging in business or misuse.

The sword Bomjon has at his side, as reported, is a scimitar. The scimitar goes back to ancient Egypt. It is related to the god Amun, representing divinity. Amun was the god of air and is associated with the breath of life. He is the hidden one. Amun was perceived as upholding the rights to justice of the poor and aiding those who travelled, as protector of the way. Within Hindu mythology: Buddha is another Avatar of Vishnu. The tenth avatar is to be called Kalki Avatara. He will appear armed with a scimitar, riding on a white horse, and he will end the present age. After that, a whole new world will be created.

The December 2006 Winter Solstice was accompanied by the new moon, with the sickle moon reappearing on December 23. The Nepal Buddha Boy was sighted by villagers on December 24 and he met with journalists on December 25 carrying a scimitar. Those of you fascinated by ancient Alchemy and Archetypal Mythology will, no doubt, be fascinated by this report. Bomjon re-emerges after the cyclical return from the shortest day, the passing of the Winter Solstice.

The ancient texts are describing astronomical coordinates for changing planetary cycles. Pegasus (the white horse) in Aquarius. Pegasus flew out of the blood of Medusa when Persius slew her... this has to be an allegory for the formation of this part of the universe. "The Nymphs gave Perseus a cap of invisibility, winged sandals and the knowledge of where to find the Graiai... Hermes gave Perseus a mighty scimitar with which to slice off Medusa’s head." Is it possible Hindu myth of the sword which heralds a 'whole new world' is a comet arriving out of the constellation of pegasus at the dawning of the Age of Aquarius?

Dán in the largest sense is the power by which we co-create our lives with God -- the greatest art we can produce being a life in harmony with the Sacred. So the name Tuatha Dé Danu can also mean: The Co-creative Tribes of God."

To the Picts and the Celts Tolkien's: Lord of the Rings would not be what people today call fiction... Until today, in the highlands of Scotland, people there know that elves and faeiries are real. In many ways more real than todays mechanical, material world. The ancestors feel pity for the people of the modern world, those who do not know their own roots, and who know nothing of the real world. If you do not have the eyes to see (the eye of spirit), then you know you are caught in a trap, isolated from your origins and therefore lost.

In that respect the Nepal Buddha Boy: Palden Dorje Bio appears to be something or someone strange in a world that has lost its own knowing and wisdom. Buddha Dharma claim that he was born during the May 9 full moon in 1989. Perhaps the translation from the Nepalese calender was miscalculated? The May 9 Full moon was in 1990. Assuming that the May 9, 1990 Buddha full moon birth date is correct, then the Buddha boy was born with full moon conjunct Pluto.

Recollecting the past incidents, the Guru said, "on Jestha 17, 2062 (May 29, 2003), Palden Dorje work up from meditation. I asked him if he did not like to stay at home. He replied that he did not like to do anything and all that he wanted to do was to meditate. I asked him why he did not take any food. I also asked him if he was not hungry. He replied that two Nagas (snakes) would sit here on the right and left side and the Naga sitting on the right side would give him milk and that was enough for him. Related to the Buddha - "Naga is a Sanskrit term meaning literally Serpent (especially cobra) but it also holds the meanings ­ a tree; a mountain; the sun; the number seven; wisdom and initiate ­ all symbols and emblems we will become familiar with in the worship of the serpent. They are said to reside in Patala, however this has a meaning similar to antipodes, the same name given by the ancients to the America’s. It is a similar term to the Mexican Nagals, the medicine (healers) and sorcerers who always kept a god in the shape of a serpent. In Burma they are Nats or serpent gods. Esoterically Naga is a term for wise men. There is a folk tradition that Nagas washed Gautama (Buddha) at his birth ­ the wise men visiting the deity on Earth and cleansing the enlightened one. They are also said to have guarded him and the relics of his body after his death."

It is obvious that those who travel to stand and watch a sage meditate are lacking their own inner power of meditation. We are not on this earth to watch and comment (nor depend) on those who apply their skills of spiritual awareness, but each one has to discover and apply awareness of the divine for themselves. I would say: Leave the boy alone!

Bed Bahadur Thing, chief of the Om Namobuddha Tapaswi Seva Committee (formed to regulate devotees of the Buddha Boy), told reporters Bomjan had been found in the forest Sunday morning by a team of seven volunteers.'He was tired of the crowds and wanted to meditate in peace,' Thing reportedly said. 'So he went deeper into the forest seeking quiet.'
